Net10 Wireless is not the first name you think of when thinking about smart phones and unlimited plan.  But it’s Net10 that has two new Android phones out for people who are looking for a pay as you go solution for their cell phone needs.  Net10 has traditionally been the province of people looking to save a lot of money on their cell phone plans.  It hasn’t been the domain of people looking for a high end smart phone.  This seems to have changed somewhat.

Net10 Android Phones

The very first Net10 Android phones were released earlier this month and you can now purchase them on the official website with free shipping.  You have some freedom with these phones, in that you are allowed to use any of the Net10 available plans including Net10 Unlimited (which costs $50 per month for unlimited everything).  There are not many prepaid Android phones out there with this kind of freedom.  Many of them require you to use a certain plan like Straight Talk, which only allows its Android devices to run on its unlimited plan.  It’s a great plan, but still, it’s nice to have options.

Net10 LG Optimus Lineup

The two Net10 Android phones are the LG Optimus Q and the LG Optimus Net.  The Optimus Q is the preferable device because it has a slide-out keyboard, but if you prefer not to have the sliding element, the Net will treat you just fine.  They are very similar in nature and have few differences, the sliding feature being the biggest difference.  The “Q” costs $179.99 while the “Net” costs $149.99, both good prices when you consider there is no contract to go along with the use of these phones.

Since you are considering a prepaid Android phone, you might want to check out the competition as well.  It’s always smart to do this.  Straight Talk, Virgin, and Boost Mobile are three good places to start.  Net10, however, is a very good company and is a safe bet.

Another advantage is price. If you need an inexpensive cell phone, prepaid is an excellent option. Most people can afford to have one of these phones for emergencies. If one’s car is disabled, this is the perfect way to call for help. You will not have to leave your car, and search for a pay phone.

Cons

This kind of cell phone is good for emergency or infrequent use. However, if you plan to use your phone a great deal, the minutes can be expensive. Also, when you are roaming out of the area, your minutes will be used up at twice the normal rate. You can save money by going with a cell phone service that you pay monthly for.

Most pre-paid cell phones are “bare bones” devices. An expensive smart phone or one with a lot of bells and whistles may not be available at pre-paid prices. The better devices are available from services that require a long term commitment. In some cases, the devices are free when you sign up for a year or more. This gives the provider the chance to make back some of the money on the free device that they furnish you.
